JORGE GINER.

Trumpet

Born in Ceuta, he began his musical studies with his father, Aniceto Giner Arranz. Later, he expanded his training at the Conservatorio Superior de Música “Victoria Eugenia” in Granada, obtaining the title of Senior Professor of Trumpet and Chamber Music. He received the Extraordinary End of Middle Grade Award and the Extraordinary End of Higher Grade Award in trumpet, in addition to the Honorary Mention in both specialties. He is the first and only trumpeter in the history of the conservatory to receive such accolades.

He has studied under renowned masters such as Maurice André, Adam Rapa, Marco Pierobón, Michael Sachs, Juanjo Serna, Carlos Benetó, Allen Vizutti, Patrick Sheridan, William Forman, Pacho Flores, Rainer Auerbach, Reinhold Friedrich, and Juan Vicente Aguado, among others. He considers Benjamín Moreno Fernández his great teacher and mentor.

In 2000, after an audition, he secured the position of trumpet assistant soloist in the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada (OCG), with which he toured Spain, Austria, and Germany, performing in prestigious European venues such as the Berlin Philharmonie, the Alte Oper in Frankfurt, Stadttheater Wilhelmshaven, Bielefelder Philharmoniker, Theater Osnabrück, and others. He held this position until 2002, when he won a competitive examination to become a professor in the Municipal Music Band of Granada, performing concertos by Haydn, Hummel, and Tomasi, among others. In 2004, he was appointed Numerary Professor of Music and Performing Arts by the Junta de Andalucía, and in 2019, he became a Full Professor of Trumpet.

He is a founding member of the Granada Brass quintet, winning various awards in chamber music competitions such as the International Guadamora Competition, the International “Antón García Abril” Competition, the Música Viva Competition, and the National Ciudad de Lucena Competition, among others. He has recorded several albums with Granada Brass, including El Hombre Elefante (2003), Rendezvous (2007), Granada Brass Suite (2015), and 20 (2021), in addition to participating in recordings with the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada for the Harmonia Mundi label.

He has performed as principal trumpet with the RTVE Orchestra and Choir, the Düsseldorf Orchestra, the Andalusian Chamber Orchestra, the Orquesta Ciudad de Almería, and the Córdoba Symphony Orchestra, alongside soloists such as Elizabeth Leonskaja, Fabio Biondi, Michael Thomas, Plácido Domingo, and Adam Rapa. His performances of Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 by J.S. Bach with the Andalusian Chamber Orchestra and the Orquesta Ciudad de Almería during a tour of Andalusian provinces stand out.

Balancing his performing career with teaching, he has given classes to the Andalusian Youth Orchestra (OJA) and the Young Orchestra of the Community of Madrid for over a decade. He has developed educational platforms such as Trumpet Beach and Christmas Trumpets, along with projects like VandelTrumpets and the Corps of Natural Trumpets and Drums of CSM Jaén. He has taught trumpet at various European and American conservatories, including the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Turin, the Licinio Refice Conservatory in Frosinone, the Umberto Giordano Conservatory in Foggia, the Academy of Music and Theatre in Lithuania, and the National Conservatory of Puerto Rico.

In 2022, he led the International Trumpet Ensemble at the Vitautas Magnus University Music Academy in Kaunas (Lithuania), composed of more than 20 Spanish, Italian, and Lithuanian students. His students, numbering in the hundreds, currently hold positions in orchestras, conservatories, municipal bands, chamber groups, and music schools across Europe.

He pursued a master's degree at the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos de Madrid, focusing on The Trumpet in the 17th and 18th Centuries, earning top marks. In 2018, he obtained his doctorate from URJC with his thesis Use and Function of the Trumpet in the Most Representative Andalusian Cathedrals During the 17th and 18th Centuries, receiving Summa Cum Laude honors. He has published two books: The Trumpet in the Spanish Court and Andalusian Cathedrals (2020) and Trumpet Memoirs (2021).

He is the creator of the platform #nosquedamosconlatrompeta and its online program, a space for trumpeters, educators, and students worldwide, with over 100 broadcasts and presence in 25 countries, providing access to open educational resources. The book #nosquedamosencasaconlatrompeta, based on transcriptions of program sessions, is currently in preparation.

Currently, he is a Professor of Trumpet at the Conservatorio Superior de Música “Andrés de Vandelvira” in Jaén and a collaborator with the Spanish instrument brand Stomvi, performing with the Titan series of trumpets, cornets, and flugelhorns.
