Luis Damián Ortiz is a distinguished violinist and violist who holds advanced performance and pedagogy degrees with honors in both instruments.
While pursuing postgraduate studies at the International Menuhin Music Academy in Switzerland, he was mentored by renowned musicians such as Maxim Vengerov, Liviu Prunaru, and Ettore Causa. He also holds a Master’s degree in Chamber Music from the Universidad Internacional de Andalucía, where he studied under world-class artists including Bruno Canino, Sergei Krilov, and Rocco Filippini.
Throughout his professional career, he has performed with prestigious ensembles, including the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, the Community of Madrid Orchestra, the Málaga Philharmonic, the Castilla y León Symphony Orchestra, and the celebrated West-Eastern Divan Orchestra under maestro Daniel Barenboim. With the latter, he performed in concerts and made recordings at the world's most prominent festivals and venues, such as New York's Carnegie Hall, the Lucerne Festival in Switzerland, the London Proms, and in major cities including Shanghai, Beijing, Seoul, Frankfurt, Munich, Berlin, and Salzburg.
Recognized numerous times in competitions, his most notable awards include the Edwin Fischer Foundation Prize in Lucerne and top honors at the Cieza International Music Competition.
In 2016, he left his position with the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra in Belgium to become Musical Lead and Concertmaster at Teatro del Lago in Chile, where he also served as Director of its Arts Academy.
Currently, he holds a tenured professorship in violin at the “Tomás Bote” Official Conservatory of Music in his hometown of Almendralejo—the same institution where he began his studies. He balances this pedagogical vocation with musical and artistic outreach through Anam Camerata, an orchestra of professional musicians from Extremadura dedicated to vitalizing the region's cultural life. Additionally, he serves as concertmaster and director of the Academy of the Orchestra of Romanticism in Almendralejo.
