Born in Linares (Jaén) in 1972 and a true Almerian at heart, Juan Ruiz Galiano earned his Higher Degree in Trumpet at the Royal Superior Conservatory of Music of Granada. Upon completing his advanced studies, he continued to hone his craft at the Villa Real Brass Academy and the Spanish Brass Academy, studying under the tutelage of acclaimed professors Juanjo Serna, Carlos Benetó, Benjamín Moreno, and Manuel López.
Since arriving in Almería in 1998 to serve as the trumpet professor at the city's conservatory, he has become a cornerstone of the local musical landscape. He has been an active member of various chamber ensembles, including Stilo Concertato (performing early music on natural trumpet), the Reiche Brass Quintet, the RCPMA Brass Ensemble, Alborán Brass, and Ensemble Epicus.
Furthermore, his versatility has led to frequent collaborations with prominent groups such as the City of Almería Choir, the Virgen del Mar Choir, the City of Almería Orchestra (OCAL), the FIMA Orchestra, the Roquetas de Mar Baroque Orchestra, Collegium Musicum, the Almería Municipal Band, and the Clasijazz Big Band. Internationally, he notably participated in the August 2007 academic opening ceremony at Washington State University (USA), performing alongside their resident brass quintet.
During his extensive tenure with the Reiche Brass Quintet (2003–2019), Juan brought a remarkably diverse array of programs to the stage. His performances bridged the gap between popular and highly specialized repertoires, seamlessly navigating educational concerts, ceremonial events, and musical theater.
A forward-thinking educator, he has been publishing specialized trumpet content on his YouTube channel, Smartrumpet, since 2017. The channel has achieved global reach, gathering over 4,000 subscribers and more than 26,000 watch hours worldwide.
Above all, Juan Ruiz Galiano's impact in the classroom is undeniable: over the last three decades, he has profoundly influenced and shaped the development of the vast majority of trumpet players trained in Almería.
